097 - Storytelling as a Spiritual Practice

When religions and wisdom traditions want to engage and transform us, they lean on stories, parables, koans, fables, and other tales to bring us into understanding of who we are in relation to the bigger world around us. The history and practice of storytelling about faith and belief goes back thousands of years across all religions and cultures and has formed and shaped our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and actions. Take a deep dive into the transformation that story creates in our spirits and the why and how of its uses in spiritual life. Learn about listening as a spiritual practice and about how stories are an essential part of your spiritual tool kit. Explore your religious or spiritual identity in relation to the four kinds of stories and the six tasks that stories do in our faith and spiritual communities. In this two-session class we will focus the first day on the background and theory and the second day on stories that have (or could) transform our lives. (Class limit: 50)
